WELCOME TO OUR FAQ PAGE!
Our Location:
We are located south of San Antonio, Texas, along the San Antonio River, bordering Floresville and Poth.
Our puppies are purchased and delivered to buyers all over the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Airport Pickup:
If you prefer to fly in and out, we offer complimentary drop off at the San Antonio airport (curbside departures between the hours of 9am-3pm most days. Check with us before booking!) Alternatively, a puppy flight nanny can deliver your furbaby for an additional fee from the San Antonio airport to your closest International airport. Need more information….click here!
Ground Delivery:
For ground delivery, (in state and out of state) we have a couple of companies we can recommend or you can book a delivery person through Citizenshipper.com. Pick ups for a ground nanny are done in Floresville.
Breeder Accreditation:
We are an AKC Dachshund breeder and have been inspected by the AKC on June 21, 2019, December 14, 2022, and October 29, 2024. We are currently in full compliance with the AKC’s standards and have received positive feedback.
State of Texas License: License #465
We are now a licensed breeder inspected by the State of Texas (passed in full compliance) effective January 6, 2025. To ensure your safety and avoid scams, it is advisable to purchase from a licensed breeder.
How can I be assured that this is not a scam?
1. We are registered with the American Kennel Club (AKC), undergo frequent inspections, and adhere to their rules and regulations. You can check our listing on their website. (CLICK HERE)
2. We accept credit card payments for down payments, which can be disputed if it was a scammer website. Most scams involve wire transfers or payments through apps, which should be avoided if you are unfamiliar or distrustful of the individual. I highly advise against mailing money orders or checks as well. Stay away from marketplaces on facebook and craigslist.
3. We are proud to be a registered licensed breeder by the state of Texas. This status requires frequent inspections, adherence to rules and guidelines for the care of our animals. While there are few licensed breeders who follow state regulations, we are proud to be one of them! 😊 If a breeder has five or more female breeding dogs, they are required to be licensed in Texas. Texas Breeder License #465
4. We have a federal trademark with our business name filed January of 2020. (CLICK TO VIEW)
5. We have an instagram and Facebook page that has been around 10+ years! Our gallery is also full of years and years of photos! I have posted more photos than any other breeders page I have ever seen!
(Most scams have stolen other breeders photos, and have dogs priced too good to be true!)
6. Texas law mandates that breeders with five or more adult intact female dogs obtain a license from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Many breeders do not follow the law. We have undergone inspections by the State of Texas and are legally obligated to adhere to state guidelines for housing, records, and animal care. All of our breeding dogs receive annual examinations and exceptional care. You can report unlicensed breeders to the State, and they offer rewards. The most effective way to avoid puppy mills and scams is to purchase from a licensed breeder.

Are all your dogs AKC registered/bred?
Certainly!! ALL OF OUR DOGS ARE PUREBRED AKC DACHSHUNDS! Pricing is listed on each puppies individual photo tab on the available puppies page and will vary. The NONREFUNDABLE deposit amount listed will be applied to the full price….Make sure to scroll down for all info!!! Pricing is firm!
Nonrefundable Deposits
Nonrefundable Deposit amounts vary and are displayed on the “Available Puppies” tab.
All deposits and payments are nonrefundable and non-transferable. No exceptions will be made.!!!!! We are passing on other potential buyers or clients to hold the dog for you. Please ensure that this is the dog you want before placing a deposit or paying in full. Money will not be transferred to other dogs, and it will not be refunded for any reason, including changing your mind, wanting to change dogs, being unable to pick up the dog, job reasons, COVID-19, illness, family issues, flight issues, or any other reason. We clearly state this information on our website and on the nonrefundable deposit tab at checkout before you place a deposit or payment. Please make sure to read all of our policies before making a deposit.
Application Process
No, we do not do an application as we do not discriminate against people for having kids or other pets like some breeders do! I do not feel as though it is my place to judge anyone's household and question their responsibility when they can easily lie anyways. I’m not doing a background check 😂
What is the process to buy a puppy?
Upon placing a deposit online, the puppy will be marked as “SOLD OUT” or “RESERVED” on the puppy tab. I will then be able to put your checkout information from the receipt with the puppies file. The deposit link (the pink tab) is located below the photos on each puppy’s information box. The deposit will be applied to any remaining balance.
Please note: Approximately 99% of our puppies are adopted directly from the website. We will only schedule a puppy visit for puppies remaining available at 12 weeks of age with at least two rounds of vaccinations. Please refrain from requesting to view newborn or young puppies, as their immune systems are highly susceptible at this age, and we cannot risk exposing them.
Do you offer payment plans?
Although we do not provide in house financing, you can finance your puppy through Afterpay and Klarna by applying at checkout. Additional fees may apply. Occasionally, they offer 0% interest plans. Please note that there is an additional 12.5% charge added to the purchase price balance for these options. Additionally, please ensure that you pay the balance one week in advance. Occasionally, individuals encounter issues with the Klarna system. We have no control over their system issues and can not push transactions through.
Klarna and Afterpay are both available (12.5-% fee applies to balance) however if you want to use Klarna I will need to send you an invoice to pay the deposit/balance.
Pricing Info
The price listed is firm.
I do not provide pricing charts. However, if you are seeking a low-cost puppy, I recommend visiting your local shelter, veterinarian, newspaper, or Craigslist. We invest a significant amount of money in our dogs and programs. Additionally, we are one of only a few dachshund breeders licensed by the State. Our puppies will be priced on the higher end! Providing high-quality care for our dogs and puppies incurs significant expenses, although some breeders may not prioritize this aspect. However, we are committed to investing in their mental and physical well-being, as it holds great importance to us. Our commitment to their care is evident in our photographs, Facebook, and Instagram pages, where you can witness our animals as cherished members of our family. They are not confined to kennels but have ample space to engage in play, hunting, and exploration and of course some good ole trouble! 🤣
Keep in mind, We don’t get to call in sick to work, as we have to take care of animals everyday and sacrifice a lot of events and travel because we must to be here to care for our animals. We dedicate tons of time to their daily routines, including cleaning, feeding, bathing, veterinary visits, and delivering puppies. We provide round-the-clock care for both puppies and their mothers, including emergency veterinary visits and after-hours visits and fees. Additionally, we purchase lots of supplies - puppy delivery supplies, nursery supplies, emergency supplies, wellness supplies, medical supplies, puppy pads, blankets, dog and puppy toys, bones, kennel replacements, dog house replacements. We also maintain meticulous record-keeping. Our commitment continues on to numerous photo sessions, which can be super time-consuming. It takes time to communicate with clients as well as potential clients. Vaccinations, flea, heartwormer, dewormer, pest control, fence repairs, pooper scooping, fly baiting, and paperwork for AKC registration and the State of Texas Licensing Department and personal records are also integral to our care.
In summary, the care of our dogs and puppies is a labor of love that demands significant time, effort, and financial investment!
Puppies are sold as follows:
1. Pet Only: If available, puppies are listed as pet only. They are sold as pets without any documentation or registration. They are considered companion family pets and do not require documentation for spay/neuter.
2. LIMITED AKC REGISTRATION: No breeding rights, Sold on a Spay/neuter contract. (My contract and guarantees are NOT Transferrable to someone else should you sell the dog!) These 2 conditions must be met: Return the contract signed that was received at pup pick up WITHIN 7 days postmarked by text or email only (proof of receipt) (NOTE: We give plenty of time to get this back to us, therefore no late exceptions will be made!!!!) AND provide proof of spay/neuter by a licensed vet BY 9 MONTHS of age, NO LATER!!! The spay/neuter proof needs to be turned in by email or text (as proof of receipt) by the 9th month of age, not months or days later. If no one returns the paperwork within 7 days of pick up, I will not be keeping the paperwork on this litter, and it will be recycled. The limited akc papers will only be ordered when both conditions are met and it usually takes a couple weeks to receive them. The AKC codes will then be emailed to the client to register online. Again, most people don't want or care about the limited papers but if you want the limited papers you will need to follow these 2 conditions on the contract! You can always elect to not neuter/spay your dog, that is totally fine, but we just do not provide limited akc papers. -Any AKC fees for registration are the responsibility of the buyer.
3. HUNTING/ AGRICULTURAL PURPOSES: Dogs are bred for conformation. Dogs are bred for hunting. Dachshunds are exceptional hunting dogs and this was their original purpose.
4. No FULL AKC- no breeding rights are given-No need to ask!

What payment methods do you accept?
All deposits paid through the website will be processed without any additional fee.
Balance payments can be made by:
- Cash at pickup
OR
- Credit Card, Klarna, or Afterpay (paid one week in advance of pick up)
Please note our prices online are cash at pick up pricing….therefore any balance not paid in cash at pickup will incur a 12.5% surcharge.
WE DO NOT ACCEPT: checks and money orders
After a deposit, what are the next steps?
If a deposit is made early on, updated photographs will be sent via email approximately every 7-10 days, contingent upon the age of the puppy. We know how hard it is to wait for your new baby so we try to make the process of waiting for your puppy an enjoyable experience! Newborns will commence photos at a later date, once they have matured.
We do not offer FaceTime calls. I find that weird! 🤨
For older puppies, (atleast 8 weeks of age), we will send a brief video showcasing their personalities. Alternatively, videos are frequently posted on Instagram. Puppy photographs are typically updated online every 7-10 days. We try to provide fun photo updates, rather than merely basic photographs, as is common among many breeders.
What is provided with a puppy?
Puppies come with a 48-hour infectious guarantee and a one-year life-threatening genetic guarantee from their date of birth. (Refer to the Muddy River Guarantees tab for further details.) Since adults are always purchased AS-IS, they come with no guarantees. By making a deposit, you are agreeing to adhere to these policies.
We recommend that all clients have their pets vet checked within 48 hours and purchase pet insurance to cover their furry friend upon arrival at their new home. Many insurance policies will cover routine care and emergency visits. For instance, Safeco, Metlife, Nationwide, and Progressive are a few companies that currently offer pet insurance. I would check online or directly for pricing and coverage. Dogs are similar to humans and can easily become ill or have an accident at any time.
Prices for Flight Nanny or Ground Transportation Services for In State and Out of State
Our puppies fly and transport all over the United States, Canada, and Mexico. While I am unable to provide clients price quotes, as these are third-party companies , I am happy to refer you to some reputable transportation providers for ground or flight services to get a quote!
When can my puppy ship with a nanny or transport?
They must be 8 weeks of age in order to fly with most inflight personal nanny’s and the same applies to ground transport.
Can I fly into the San Antonio airport and pick up?
Certainly, flights to the San Antonio airport are reasonably priced, If you prefer to fly in and out, I can meet you at the airport to drop-off. The process is fairly easy and you will need to call your airline for their rules and details. However, I am approximately an hour away from the airport, so we can only drop off between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM most days to avoid traffic congestion in downtown San Antonio and potential delays in reaching the airport. Please note that there is no additional fee for drop-off. Nevertheless, it is imperative that you contact me to confirm availability before making a booking. Additionally, please be aware that flight dates are subject to change. Only book refundable or changeable flights, as there may be unforeseen circumstances that necessitate an extended stay for the puppy.
Is your price negotiable?
No, pricing is firm. If we decide to lower a price, it would be on an older puppy at a later time. Puppies seem to sell in spurts, one day they are available and the next day they are not. Here today…gone tomorrow! We will not hold a puppy without a deposit. Additionally, we do not trade for services, other objects, or animals.
What colors and patterns are available?
Dachshunds come in a variety of colors and patterns. We provide an estimated description of their color/pattern under each puppy’s for sale tab. However, as they grow, this description may change. We cannot control color and patterns, especially when they are listed as newborns or young pups, as color changes each week. For instance, many pups that appear red as puppies end up more cream-colored as they mature, and patterns and dappling change and develop as they grow. Some dogs lighten, while others darken.
If you have your heart set on a very specific color, we recommend waiting to place a deposit until 6-8 weeks of age when they have grown more into their color and coat, allowing you to determine if that color is suitable for you. We make no guarantees on color as it is uncontrollable with how fast puppies grow. Each breeder has their own opinion on coloring as well.
A dog’s coloring will naturally change as they grow into adulthood due to various factors, including genetics, hair type, loss of puppy fur into their adult coat, pigmentation, allergies, hormonal changes, environmental changes, hair care, nutrition, and more. Color changes should be expected as a puppy grows. We will never guarantee a dog’s permanent coat color for these reasons.
What size will my dog be?
We breed miniature dachshunds and tweenie sized dachshunds. We do not breed toy, standard, or micro dachshunds. I personally believe that the smaller the dog, the less attractive it is. They also have poor bone structure, and you are sacrificing quality for size. (my personal opinion.)
Additionally, keep in mind that miniature dachshunds were originally bred down from standard dachshund lines, and there are many generations of dog lines that influence a dog’s size, which are not controllable by any breeder. Sometimes, a breeder will get a smaller-sized dog, and sometimes a larger-sized dog, and sometimes you will get a mix of sizes.
No honest breeder will ever guarantee a specific size! It is uncontrollable!
Breeders can have two 10-pound miniature dachshunds mate and produce puppies in a litter that, at one year of age, have adult weights ranging from 6 pounds to 18 pounds, all from the same litter. I have personally witnessed this happen, and it is largely due to each dog’s past genetics and breeding lines, but also the puppy’s lifestyle, growth factors, environment, exercise, immune system, and diet. There are too many factors that can affect a puppy’s size during its first year of growth.
For example, it is similar to predicting the size of a couple’s children. Children could be tall or short, fat or skinny, or you could end up with a mix of sizes. No one can predict this or control this in humans, so of course the same applies to animals!
Could you provide your address and explain why it is not listed?
Muddy River Dachshunds holds a registered trademark with the United States of America, has filed local business name registrations, and is registered on AKC’s website. Additionally, we have passed inspections and compliance checks. We are now registered as a licensed breeder with the State of Texas, having also passed inspections and compliance checks. Furthermore, we have maintained active Facebook and Instagram pages for an extended period, as well as years of google reviews from real clients!
We do not list an address because we are not a storefront. Our puppies are raised at our home, and there have been instances where dogs have disappeared, possibly stolen. Unlike a storefront like Petco, we are not open to the public. We have three children with various activities and school commitments. Since obtaining state licensing, we have shifted pickup arrangements to Floresville or Poth, not at our residence, for the safety of our dogs and family.
Will you have puppies in the future of 2026 or 2027?
We do not know what we will have or what will be available so far in advance. Please check back to the website during the timeframe you wish to bring a new baby home.
Do you do waitlists?
No, we do not currently do waitlists or subscriptions. We used to do it but now all pups are first deposit to hold.
I want a dog with blue eyes or dappled eyes?
Many times eye color can change on a dog up to a year. Many times puppies are adopted out even before their eyes open. If you are very concerned with eye color, I recommend waiting until they are atleast 8 weeks of age to make a decision.
Have your dog lines undergone genetic testing?
We have invested a significant amount of money in genetic testing our dog lines at the start of our program. While genetic testing does not guarantee the absence of any issues, it serves as a valuable tool for breeders to enhance the breed and identify and remove dogs from the program that are discovered to have genetic problems.
Are your dogs housed in kennels?
Our dogs reside indoors and in expansive yards. We possess ample acreage for our dogs to engage in running and play. Additionally, we have covered kennels within buildings that I occasionally utilize during inclement weather or when I require to shield my puppies from the ground until they have completed their full vaccination regimen.
Do you breed other types of dogs?
No, We DO NOT breed a bunch of other breeds of dogs, our specialty is concentrated on one breed, THE DACHSHUND! Also known as hot dogs, wieners, oscar meyer dogs, sausage dogs, doxies, and weenie dogs to name a few :)
Also…..
We DO NOT breed for toy or micro Dachshunds!
We DO NOT breed for standard dachshunds!
We DO NOT breed out our females or stud out our males to other people's dogs.
NO FULL AKC/NO breeding rights. Puppies are sold with limited AKC or pet only
What coat types do you breed?
Shorthair and longhair only. No silkies, as I got tired of people asking if they were really dachshunds with the silkie coats, plus they require much more grooming!
What colors do you produce?
Our dachshunds come in a rainbow of colors (check out our photo gallery or above) Dachshund colors such as….Black and Tan or Black and Cream, Isabella and Tan, or Isabella and Cream, Blue and Tan or Blue and Cream, Red tones like ee red to shaded reds, Chocolate and Tan or Chocolate and Cream and Shaded Cream and EE Cream. In addition to the beautiful colors, they can also come in patterns like dapples and piebald's!
Can I visit a puppy posted on the website?
We only set up visits on puppies that are at least 12 weeks of age and have received at least two rounds of vaccinations. We do not permit visits on newborn or young puppies, as their immune systems are still developing. We prioritize the health and safety of our animals. Furthermore, we take great care to maintain a clean and germ-free environment for our puppies , dogs, and indoor puppy room.
Do you offer adult dogs for sale?
Yes, occasionally. Any deposits or rehoming fees for adult dogs are nonrefundable. Adult dogs are sold “as is,” and any known conditions are disclosed.
Can you hold the puppy beyond the scheduled pickup date?
Yes, it is possible, but please inquire. We typically do not object to a few days, but if the duration exceeds that, there may be an additional $20 per day for holding the puppy. Additionally, the puppy may be required to be paid in full in order to be held.
Other Important Notes:
- We are not responsible for your transportation costs to pick up the puppy if there is a delay in the puppy’s departure date due to unforeseen circumstances such as injury, illness, or the need for additional time for growth and socialization. In such cases, we may need to quarantine a litter if any signs of illness are observed for the benefit of both the clients and the puppies. We do not want to provide any ill or potentially ill dogs to our clients.
- We are not responsible for delays caused by your air travel or nanny service issues. Clients must be understanding and flexible. Unexpected events can arise, and pickup dates may change last minute. Therefore, please ensure that reservations are made with refundable options. However, if you choose to book non-refundable plans, we will not be held responsible. Animals are living creatures, and issues can arise at any time, just like humans. Keep in mind, Weather conditions during travel can also be an issue.
- I do NOT ask if you are driving in, flying in, taking a train, private jet, bus or magical flying unicorn. Obviously, this is none of my business! On all advertisements, I give the puppy info and rough pick up date for each pup. Most people do drive in, However, if you are flying in, The client is of course responsible for making their own flight arrangements and following their airlines guidelines and rules. We do not book flights or know each airlines or private jets policies. You fly with puppy at your own risk!
-I DO NOT ship out of the country!
- Serious Inquiries only! No puppies will be sold to puppy mills, pet brokers, research facilities, pet flippers nor to pet stores...they are looking for FOREVER loving homes ONLY.
While most clients I encounter are kind, wonderful to work with, and provide wonderful loving and caring homes for my dogs and puppies, unfortunately, like any business, we do come across individuals who are not kind, disrespectful, and believe they are entitled to make their own policies and rules. I will not bend to threats and demands! We are a reputable family breeder, and only the best will do for our puppies. I am a very fair and honest licensed breeder, and I will not tolerate unreasonable and rude individuals. We have the right to demand a puppy be returned, especially if a puppy is suspected of being ill within the first 48 hours. The puppy must be returned, and failure to do so by the buyer constitutes a breach of contract, as we must be able to seek medical care at our veterinarian and document any issues at OUR VETERINARIAN! (See Guarantees!) We have the right to place puppies and deny anyone a sale at any time at our discretion without providing a reason! Therefore, if you do not like our policies or do not feel comfortable with how we operate, please do not place a deposit, as I am not the breeder for you! I have posted more information and more photos than any other breeder’s website, and I will not change how we do things. We are inspected and licensed by the state. and follow strict protocol. Most of these conditions/guarantees listed are standard practice in the pet industry! There is a reason why breeders have policies in place. All policies and guarantees are firm. The safety of my family and my dogs is also of utmost importance! I will not be bullied into making exceptions when my policies are clearly stated on the website! Please be respectful, as we are to all clients and potential clients! By placing a deposit, you are agreeing to the terms and guarantees listed!
Please visit Muddy River Guarantees page for more info before placing a deposit!
